Neck & Upper Back Pain Can Show Up In Many Ways

Picture
You might be experiencing:

• Stiffness when turning your head
• Pain between the shoulder blades
• Tight shoulders or upper back tension
• Headaches that seem to start from the neck
• Discomfort after long hours at your desk
• Pain when looking down at your phone or laptop

For many people these symptoms gradually creep in over time as movement becomes restricted and certain areas of the body start compensating for others.

The good news is that once the underlying cause is understood, many people see significant improvement.

Our Approach

At Elevate Chiropractic we don’t just chase symptoms.

Instead, we look at how your whole body is moving and functioning. From the ground up.

Neck and upper back pain is often influenced by things like:
• Reduced mid-back mobility
• Shoulder movement patterns
• Posture habits
• Breathing mechanics
• Lower body and foot stability

By improving how these systems work together, we aim to reduce pain and help your body move more efficiently.

This approach is part of our Resilient Body Blueprint, which focuses on helping you feel better now while building your health, strength and movement capacity for the future.

Frequently Asked Questions

Here, we’ve answered some of the most common queries to help you feel confident in your decision to begin your journey toward a pain-free life.
What happens during the initial consultation?
Your first visit with us is designed to fully understand your condition and create the right treatment for you. It includes:
- A detailed medical history review to uncover the root causes of your pain.
- A physical examination to assess posture, mobility, and movement patterns.
- Your first treatment session (if clinically indicated).
- Tailored recommendations to complement your care and maintain progress.

Can the visit be claimed through ACC?
If your discomfort has been caused by an accident, then it may be covered by ACC.
We are able to start an ACC claim directly, and you do not require a referral from your GP.
There is a surcharge for ACC care.
What conditions can chiropractic care help with?
Our approach can address a variety of issues affecting your body, posture, and movement. Common conditions include:
Back pain: Chronic or acute pain from posture, sitting, injuries, or stiffness.
Neck pain: Often related to tension, poor posture, or desk-bound strain.
Sciatica: Pain radiating from the lower back down the legs due to nerve irritation.
Headaches and migraines: Often triggered by muscular tension and poor alignment.
Posture problems: Common in professionals working long hours at desks.
Sports injuries: Muscle strain, joint pain, or recovery difficulties after training.

If you’re unsure whether your condition can benefit, our team will assess your symptoms during your consultation.  If during the examination we believe chiropractic care is not right for you, we will let you know and point you in the right direction.
Does chiropractic treatment hurt?
Most treatments are gentle and tailored to your comfort level. You may feel slight pressure during adjustments, but treatments are rarely painful. In fact, many patients report immediate relief or a sense of relaxation after their sessions. If you ever feel discomfort, our practitioners will adapt the treatment to ensure you’re comfortable.
How soon will I see results?
Many patients experience noticeable relief within their first few sessions. However, the speed of results depends on the severity of your condition, your activity levels, and your body’s natural healing process. During your initial consultation, we’ll outline your goals and provide a realistic timeline for your recovery.
How many sessions will I need?
The number of sessions depends on your condition and your goals. Some patients feel better after just a few appointments, while others with chronic issues may require ongoing care. Your care plan will be personalised, with progress reviewed regularly along your journey.
Can chiropractic care help with sports injuries?
Absolutely. Chiropractic Care is highly effective in managing and preventing sports injuries. By improving joint mobility, reducing inflammation, releasing tight muscles, and assisting recovery, our treatments can help athletes get back to training faster while improving long-term performance.

Dr Craig has worked with weekend warriors, gym enthusiasts, and competitive athletes across Auckland and New Zealand.
